Cultivation:
A plant of the moist tropics, where it is found at elevations from 400 - 1,200 metres. It grows best in areas where annual daytime temperatures are within the range 30 - 42°c, but can tolerate 7 - 47°c. It can be killed by temperatures of 2°c or lower. It prefers a mean annual rainfall in the range 1,500 - 2,000mm, but tolerates 1,000 - 2,500mm.Requires a sunny position. Succeeds in most well-drained soils of moderate fertility[. Prefers a pH in the range 6 - 7, tolerating 5.5 - 8.
