Geographical distribution:
Found natively in India and Sri Lanka. It is introduced in gardens in many tropical countries around the world. It is, for example, widely used in parts of Jakarta in Indonesia and the Caribbean islands of Trinidad and Tobago.ECOLOGICAL ASPECT:
It does not require pruning in order to maintain its tall, straight, main trunk with short, drooping branches.Grows naturally in sub-humid to humid subtropical and tropical climates, generally frost-free areas with annual lows of 16 to 25 °C, annual highs of 25 to 35 °C, annual rainfall of 800 to 3000 mm and a dry season of 8 months or less.
